ZAYN MALIK RAWALPINDI: A Rawalpindi court on Monday sentenced Farrukh Khokhar and two other convicts to life imprisonment in the high-profile murder case of Majid Satti, bringing an almost four-year-long trial to a close.
The verdict was announced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Afsha Ijaz Sufi. Moments after the judgment was read out, Farrukh Khokhar—who had been out on bail during the trial—was arrested inside the courtroom and taken into custody. The two other convicted men had already been brought to court from jail for the hearing.
The court also acquitted co-accused Waseem, ruling that the prosecution had failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove his involvement in the case.
Given the high-profile nature of the proceedings, security was significantly tightened at the Rawalpindi Judicial Complex. A large number of police personnel were deployed, and everyone entering the premises underwent strict security screening.
Family members and supporters of both the victim and the accused were present in court as the long-awaited verdict was announced, with the judgment marking a major development in a case that has drawn public attention since 2022.
The Majid Satti murder case was registered at Sadiqabad Police Station in August 2022. After years of court proceedings, witness testimonies, and legal arguments, the trial concluded with the court handing down life sentences to three of the accused while acquitting one due to insufficient evidence.
The ruling brings one of Rawalpindi’s most closely watched criminal cases to a legal conclusion, although the convicted individuals still have the right to challenge the verdict before a higher court.
