ZAYN MALIK France captain Kylian Mbappe expressed “immense disappointment” after Les Bleus’ FIFA World Cup campaign ended with a 2-0 semi-final defeat to Spain, admitting his team failed both tactically and technically on the biggest stage.
The Real Madrid forward said France were unable to execute their game plan of pressing Spain high up the pitch, allowing their opponents to dominate possession and dictate the tempo. Mbappe highlighted Spain’s superiority in midfield, where Rodri, Dani Olmo, and Fabian Ruiz consistently outnumbered Adrien Rabiot and Aurelien Tchouameni.
“We kept finding ourselves outnumbered 3-on-2 in midfield, and against Spain, that’s a real problem,” Mbappe said, describing the defeat as a “huge disappointment.”
Despite the setback, the 27-year-old insisted France must accept the result with dignity and learn from the experience. He said the squad would regroup after the tournament, recover during the break, and focus on future challenges.
